Cossano Canavese

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 522 · Postal code: 10010

Cossano Canavese, Cossan in Piedmontese, covers a tiny patch of ground: barely two kilometres either way, on the strip of Canavese that borders the Vercelli plain. The drop still shows: to the south the Lusenta hill, part of the Ivrea morainic amphitheatre, reaches 450 metres, while to the north the Roiera farmstead falls to 232.

The town's arms show a plough set on the earth and, in the chief, a leafy peach: a nod to local fruit growing and to the Bella Piemontese, also called Bella di Borgo d'Ale, grown since 1920. The parish church shows bare brick and stone under a pediment, and the bell tower beside it carries the clock.
