Vidracco lies in the Val Chiusella, in the Canavese, and in Piedmontese is called Vidré. Little is known of its early past: Roman coins were found near the tower of San Silvestro, also called Torre Cives. Part of the comune falls within the Monti Pelati nature reserve. The Tempio dell'Umanità also stands here.
From the shore of Lago Gurzia the village reads at a glance: the houses follow the slope in a single band, the tiled roofs overlap and the pale bell tower rises among them. Behind them the wood climbs to the ridge, and beyond, the mountains fade into haze.
