Baldissero Canavese

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 534 · Postal code: 10080

In 1929 Baldissero Canavese stopped being a municipality: it was absorbed into Castellamonte along with nearby Campo Canavese and Muriaglio. Those two are still hamlets of Castellamonte; Baldissero won its independence back in 1947. Its arms are divided per fess, silver above black, with three silver stars on the blue chief.

Above the roofs rises the stone bell tower, the clock set below its brick belfry, and behind it, up on the hill, the castle. The parish church of the Assumption and Saint Martin stands atop a long stairway; outside the village the small, plain pieve of Santa Maria di Vespiolla keeps frescoes from the second half of the fifteenth century.
