Old people said a squirrel could come down from the top of the Uia to the houses of Viù, tree by tree, without touching the ground. Then the woods went, spent to smelt the iron of the mines and forge nails; the goats did the rest. Two of the thirty-four hamlets are still Forno and Fucine.
The houses gather round the parish church of San Martino, raised in 1782 over an older one; the saint appears on the front, on horseback, cutting his cloak. In the square lies the Masso Falchero, a rock carved with three human figures, thought to be Iron Age and to stand for female deities.
