The patron of Crescentino is Saint Crescentinus, celebrated on the first Sunday of June: the same saint is also patron of Urbino and Città di Castello.
Tradition says he was born in Rome in 276, son of Euthymius, a Roman noble converted to Christianity, and joined the prestigious first cohort of the first legion, stationed in the capital to defend the emperor, commanded by Sebastian, alongside whom he devoted himself to spreading the Christian faith. In 297, when an edict of Diocletian forbade Roman soldiers from being Christian, Crescentinus left Rome with his parents and took refuge in Perugia; after their death, he gave part of his possessions to the poor and rode on, with some companions, as far as Tifernum Tiberinum, today's Città di Castello. Tradition fixes his martyrdom on 1 June, though Baronio's Roman Martyrology places it on 8 August.
