Feast of the Most Holy Annunciation
📅 Every year, on 25 March
On 25 March Motta de' Conti celebrates its patroness, the Most Holy Annunciation, to whom the town's church is dedicated; at Carnival the children go collecting eggs.
The name says two things. Motta is a rise in the ground, common in the toponymy of the plain; de' Conti points to the counts of Lomello, the old lords here. The village is on the Lombard border, and its only hamlet, Mantie, lies across the Sesia, reached only from the Lomellina.
Of the Castello dei Conti della Motta a large block of brick and plaster remains, half its roof gone: the sky shows through the empty windows, bare beams stick out along the eaves, and ivy has taken the corner tower, now under a new roof. Tall grass grows in front.
