Stroppiana

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,258 · Postal code: 13010

Stroppiana lies halfway between Vercelli and Casale Monferrato, on the last strip of Vercelli province before Alessandria begins. All around is rice: paddy fields take nine tenths of the arable land, and the village stays a small farming centre on the roads towards Turin, Milan and Pavia.

The parish church of San Michele dates from 1760 and keeps an eighteenth-century organ and a carved wooden pulpit. On the square it shows a front of three doorways, ordered by columns and closed by a curved gable, with frescoed medallions in the side pediments. Nearby the church of Santa Marta holds the chapel of the Holy Sepulchre.
