The patron saint of Locorotondo is Saint George the Martyr, protector of the town since the Middle Ages and its sole patron until 1786: his feast is held every year from 21 to 24 April, with the town's streets lit by illuminations, fireworks displays visible across the whole Itria Valley, brass band concerts and market stalls. The town's mother church, built precisely in his honour, still bears his name today.
On the evening of 22 April, the eve of the feast, the community gathers in preparation for the following day's celebrations, the climax of the patronal festivities that enliven the whole historic centre, known for the typical conical stone roofs, the «cummerse», that characterise the houses of this whitewashed town overlooking the valley.
