Five thousand years before the cathedrals, people here already built big: the Chianca dolmen, among Europe's best-preserved megaliths, stands in olive country ten minutes from the harbour. Bisceglie is a concrete sea town, its old quarter gathered around the Romanesque co-cathedral with Norman towers on watch.
The marina and the nightlife of its quays have granted it a second youth. The farewell is sweet by definition: the sospiro of Bisceglie, a little dome of sponge and cream, has a confraternity defending its recipe.
