Birori

Province: Nuoro · Region: Sardinia · Population: 561 · Postal code: 08010

In a territory of a few square kilometres more than fifty ancient monuments have been counted: nuraghi, giants' tombs such as Sa Pedra 'e S'Altare and Palatu e Lassia, domus de janas cut into the rock, menhirs, nuragic springs and the dolmen of Sarbogadas. The village sits in the middle of them.

For part of the twentieth century a village of five hundred people had two stations: that of the state railways, on the line from Cagliari to Golfo Aranci, closed in the nineteen sixties, and the halt on the Macomer to Nuoro line, which is still there. Before, it had belonged to the judicate of Torres, then to that of Arborea, then it was a fief of the Pimentel; redemption came in 1839.
