In the caves of Filiestru and Sa Ucca de su Tintirriolu human and animal remains of the Neolithic came to light, and from here the archaeologists took the name for a whole culture of the island: the Bonu Ighinu culture, called after the place. Bonu Ighinu is also the sanctuary that stands in the territory.
The village took shape in the fourteenth century around the castle of Bonu Ighinu, which the Doria had built at the end of the twelve hundreds; Eleonora d'Arborea handed it to the Aragonese, and in 1432 Alfonso V ordered it dismantled. Four years later the king made the barony of Bonvehì and gave it to Pietro Ferrer, the same man who got Padria. The redemption came in 1839.
