Padria

Province: Sassari · Region: Sardinia · Population: 695 · Postal code: 07015

The village stands where Gurulis Vetus stood, the «Gouroulis Palaia» that Ptolemy names. Legend says the inhabitants left and founded Gurulis Nova, which is today's Cuglieri, at the foot of the Montiferru: the old town and the new one, and both are still there. Padria itself leans against three hills, San Giuseppe, San Paolo and San Pietro.

In the Middle Ages it was the head of the curatoria of Cabuabbas, and then the title passed to Monteleone. In the countryside there remain three Roman bridges and a silver mine the Romans worked, Salghertalzu; the comune counts thirty-nine nuraghi. The fief was redeemed in 1839, when the feudal system ended.
