The patron of Bompensiere is the Holy Crucifix, celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September in the church dedicated to it, inaugurated around the mid-18th century and for a long time the only one present in the municipal territory; only later was the cemetery chapel built.
The village was founded at the will of Don Giovanni Lanza, who chose to build it on one of the twenty-nine fiefs belonging since 1486 to the Barony of Mussomeli, the Nadore fief, already inhabited by peasants. Upon the death of Don Giovanni, who had no legitimate children, he was succeeded by his brother Ottavio: thus was born the village of «Bompenzeri», from which the modern name Bompensiere derives. By 1700 the town numbered around two hundred souls; in 1868 the municipality was suppressed and merged into that of Montedoro. The town extends along a slope of Monte Marrobio, stretching from south-east to north-west for about a kilometre.
