The patroness of Mazzarino is Mary Most Holy of the Mazzaro, also venerated as Our Lady of Grace under this title, celebrated on the third Sunday of September. The basilica-sanctuary dedicated to her, one of the main places of worship in the town and the diocese of Piazza Armerina, stands in the historic centre at the north-eastern end of corso Vittorio Emanuele: it is a typical example of late Baroque architecture, which spread during the reconstruction following the devastating earthquake of 1693. It was designed in 1739 by the Syracusan architect Carmelo Natale Bonajuto, known as «Santuccio», at the instigation of the Capuchin friar and servant of God Father Ludovico Napoli da Mazzarino (1708-1764).
The town's co-patron is the Crocifisso dell'Olmo, an ancient and miraculous wooden crucifix kept in the rectory church of the same name, which is subordinate to the basilica itself. The historic centre of Mazzarino preserves a medieval urban layout, with a network of narrow, winding streets; also tied to the area is the Sagra della salsiccia, held between 6 and 8 September.
