The patroness of Licodia Eubea is Saint Margaret of Antioch in Pisidia, celebrated on 20 July together with Saint Anthony the Abbot. Her mother church, dedicated to her, is a basilica today.
The celebrations in her honour, though, begin already at the start of July, a period known here precisely as the «mese margheritiano», the month of Margaret. On 19 July, the eve of the feast, the procession with the saint's relic sets out from the Capuchin church; the next day it is the turn of the statue, carried through the streets of the town. The writer Giovanni Verga set part of his short story «L'amante di Gramigna» right in Licodia, mentioning the patroness's gold jewellery and the banner carried in procession during the feast.
