The patroness of Palagonia is Saint Febronia, called «a Santuzza», celebrated on 25 June in the hermitage dedicated to her, located 5 km east of the town on the SS385 towards Catania.
The festivities are held every year from 20 June to 2 July: among the most distinctive moments is the «Spaccata 'o pignu», held in the mother church on the eve, 24 June, when a large pinecone-shaped object on the main altar opens to reveal its contents. A procession also carries the saint's relic to the hermitage each year. The town also holds the church of San Nicola di Bari and the Byzantine basilica.
