The patron saint of Ragalna is Our Lady of Mount Carmel, celebrated on the last Sunday of September with a procession through the streets of the town, the statue of the Virgin carried on its ornate float, fireworks and the closing farewell of the townspeople on the evening of the following Monday. On 16 July, the liturgical feast of the Madonna is also celebrated, with a short procession. The town's co-patron is Saint Barbara, celebrated on the last Sunday of July in memory of Etna's eruptions from which the town was spared; her church was inaugurated in 1936. The municipal coat of arms depicts a star in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, an olive tree for the main local product, and a volcano for Etna, on whose slopes the town stands.
Ragalna, whose ancient name «Rachalena» already appears in a document from 1136, became the property of the Moncada family of Paternò in 1400. It was long a hamlet of Paternò, taking in many families fleeing Allied bombing during the Second World War, and gained municipal autonomy in 1985. The territory, set within the Etna Park, also preserves the chapel of Saint Rita, celebrated on 22 May.
