On the first Sunday of August Calascibetta celebrates Saint Peter in Chains; the mother church, founded in 1340 by King Peter II of Sicily, was raised to Royal Palatine Chapel.

The patron of Calascibetta is Saint Peter in Chains, celebrated on the first Sunday of August. The town's mother church, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Mary Major, was founded in 1340 at the will of King Peter II of Sicily, who in 1342 raised it to Royal Palatine Chapel, the second in the Kingdom of Trinacria after the Palatine Chapel of Palermo. It holds marble works of the Gagini school from the 16th century, while the collegiate treasury is now kept at the Diocesan Museum of Caltanissetta.

The old town of Calascibetta, of Arab-Norman layout, stands on a rocky spur facing Enna; its territory also holds the Byzantine village of Canalotto and the Realmese necropolis, evidence of the earliest phases of human settlement in the area.
