The patron saint of Nissoria is Saint Joseph, celebrated on the first Sunday of August in the mother church dedicated to him, the town's most important monument. The festivities begin on the preceding Wednesday with a triduum of spiritual preparation; on Saturday, the feast of the emigrant is celebrated, with a particularly heartfelt mass, while on Sunday the greatest solemnity takes place, with masses and a procession of the saint's statue through the town's main streets, accompanied by the faithful and the music band.
The history of Nissoria is linked to two distinct areas of the territory: the sunny plateau where the current town stands, and the district now called Torre, which from the 6th century hosted ancient Nysura, a colony founded by immigrants of eastern origin who introduced there the cult of Saint Gregory, patriarch of the Armenians, long venerated as protector of the place.
