The patron saint of Castell'Umberto is Saint Vincent Ferrer, celebrated on 5 April and again on 28 August. His venerable statue is kept in the mother church of Maria Santissima Assunta, built in 1931 to a design by Aurelio Ghersi, who also designed the present layout of the square: inside are two statues by Antonio Gagini, from 1526-1532, and old paintings, including one depicting the town's former patron and native saint, Saint Marina Pandarita, later replaced in popular devotion by the cult of Saint Vincent.
According to tradition, the Dominican convent dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer, built around the end of the 15th century next to the church of Santa Barbara, arose precisely at the spot where a stone thrown by a Dominican preacher who had come to spread the saint's cult landed, thereby urging the inhabitants to build him a church: today only the bell tower of that convent remains.
