The funeral scene that opens The Godfather Part II was shot here, by the stream at the entrance to the village; other takes were made in the Muscianò district. Graniti is not Corleone, but for the cinema it stood in for it.
The name already appears in a diploma of 1117 as Casali delli Graniti, but the village grew from the seventeenth century on, around a farmstead wanted by the count of Taormina. The oldest quarter is Roccachiacchiera, where houses still have doorposts of stone carved by hand in the early eighteenth century. It stands at 300 metres, in the Petrolo valley, inside the Alcantara river park. There are 1,522 residents.
