Twelfth-century settlers from Amalfi left a lasting mark on Salina by giving their hometown name to Malfa, now a village of 988 residents. Positioned on the second-largest Aeolian island, this agricultural hub produces and exports Malvasia white wine and salted capers grown in fertile soil alongside figs and olives.
Cinema history was made in the hamlet of Pollara, which served as the filming location for Massimo Troisi's final movie, The Postman. Visitors arriving on August 10 can experience the annual festival of Saint Lawrence, celebrated with street parades, music, and fireworks.
