Here they grow plants: Mazzarrà lives on citrus nurseries, and its grafted trees have ended up across half the Mediterranean — Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Greece, Tunisia. In 1889 a nurseryman from the town took his work as far as Paris, for the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower.
The name comes from the Arabic: manzil and rahàl, the farm villages, of which there were many here, and which became Mazzarrà. «Sant'Andrea» was added by the Basilian monks, who held the fief from 1163 and had that saint as protector: it also keeps it apart from Mazara del Vallo. In the arms is an arm holding a sword, from the Spadafora who peopled the town. There are 1,567 residents.
