The arms are a greyhound on a red field with the words «Finché venga» — until he comes. Legend says a peasant from these parts healed king Roger's dog, wounded by mistake by an archer, and refused to sell it to anyone: he had promised to give it back to its master, and he waited until the king returned.
History, more prosaically, tells of a Genoese family that reached Sicily in 1229 under the name Fornari — from the Greek phournares, baker — which received the barony and built the castle there: four centuries of Furnari, then the Marziano, and from 1819 the comune. The town sits on a hill, but its territory reaches the sea, at Tonnarella and Portorosa. There are 3,665 residents.
