Oliveri's history takes shape around its stronghold of Arab origin, the town's primary landmark. Together with the historical tuna fishery, known as the tonnara, it reflects the maritime past of this coastal settlement.
Today the municipality has 2,157 residents across a compact territory of 10.3 square kilometers. Located 45 kilometers west of Messina and 150 kilometers east of Palermo, Oliveri shares its borders with Falcone, Patti, and Montalbano Elicona.
