The patron saint of Saponara is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on 6 December, with the church dedicated to him, the church of San Nicola Vescovo. The whole municipality is rich in religious feasts and traditions, but the most important are precisely in honour of Saint Nicholas and the Immaculate Conception: on 6 December, after the morning mortar shots, religious services follow and the saint's bust is carried in procession, with the characteristic procession called «Quadrittu».
Saponara also preserves other historic places of worship, including the church of San Pietro, that of San Domenico and the former convent of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the remains of the castle overlooking the town.
