The patron of Termini Imerese is Blessed Augustine Novello, celebrated on 19 May; the city also celebrates every year the feast of Mary Most Holy Annunciate and that of Mary Most Holy of the Chain.
The site on which the oldest core of the city stands, naturally fortified and rich in caves and rock shelters, was inhabited since prehistory: an Epigravettian prehistoric station is documented in the so-called shelter of the castle of Termini. Among the city's religious buildings are the cathedral of San Nicola di Bari, the church of Maria Santissima Annunziata, the church of Sant'Orsola, that of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria and that of Santa Maria di Gesù; the Civic Museum, housed in the former Fatebenefratelli hospital opposite the cathedral, displays numerous archaeological finds from the city and its territory, including eight lion heads from the Temple of Victory at Himera. Termini Imerese is also known for its annual Carnevale termitano, one of the oldest in Italy and direct heir of the ancient Carnival of Palermo.
