Above the village stands a prehistoric hillfort, on the knoll of San Zeno, and below it runs the Sarca; behind it opens the Val di Borzago, which climbs to the Carè Alto glacier inside the Adamello-Brenta park. In the cemetery church, dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, there are fifteenth-century frescoes by Cristoforo Baschenis, one of those Bergamo painters who travelled the Alpine valleys with their workshop on their backs. Pelugo lived on timber and silk, on wrought iron from the forges along the Bedù and on walnut oil pressed at home.

The twentieth century took away twice what the village had. On the fourth of March 1922 a fire burned the settlement down and it was rebuilt; six years later, in 1928, the comune was abolished and merged, together with Darè, into that of Vigo Rendena, and became independent again only in 1946. At the war memorial stands a Škoda gun brought down from the foot of the Niscli glacier, and another piece has stayed up there on the high pass that takes its name from that gun.
