The patrons of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana are Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated on 29 June in the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo.
The town hosts the Festival of the International Academy of Music of New York, which has its European seat here alongside Burgos, in Spain, and Saint Petersburg, in Russia; it is also home to the Oxana Yablonskaya Piano Institute, a high-level piano training institute. The town also holds the Fortezza di Mont'Alfonso and the Archaeological Museum of the Garfagnana Territory.
