The patron of Pieve Fosciana is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June in the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista.
The town's best-known tradition is the Festa della Libertà, dating back to 1369 and originating from the liberation of Lucca by Emperor Charles IV: it is held every year on the Sunday after Easter and the following Monday. At Carnival, the ancient districts compete, and on Shrove Tuesday «the Carnival is burned» by setting alight a figure representing it, while the toll of «la Grossa», the largest bell of the Pieve, signals the start of Lent. The town holds the MuGAr - Museo della Garfagnana Archeologica and overlooks the Libro Aperto and Lago di Pratignano.
