Paciano

Province: Perugia · Region: Umbria · Population: 982 · Postal code: 06060

On top of Monte Petrarvella, where the town stands today, there was a temple dedicated to Janus: that is where the name comes from. You still enter through three gates, the Fiorentina, the Perugina and the Rastrella.

In the seat of the confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament there is a fresco by Francesco di Castel della Pieve, whom many hold to be Perugino's master, and in the church of San Giuseppe a Madonna della Misericordia by Fiorenzo di Lorenzo. Charles IV granted Paciano in fief to Guillaume de Beaufort; in the first half of the sixteenth century the town passed to the Papal State. The 982 residents live in a corner of Umbria whose waters end up in the Arno.
