The patron saint of Paciano is Saint Michael the Archangel, celebrated on 13 August, precisely during the days when the town holds its mid-August festivities with the traditional Sagra dello Strozzaprete and, on 14 August, the cart race known as «La discesa a bestia».
Paciano is a town of medieval origin, dating from the 14th century: it was granted in fief by Emperor Charles IV to Guglielmo di Beaufort, before being incorporated into the Papal States in the first half of the 16th century. The town preserves the church of San Giuseppe, which houses a Madonna della Misericordia painted at the end of the 15th century by Fiorenzo di Lorenzo, the church of San Carlo Borromeo, with a fine portal and a 17th-century wooden crucifix, and that of Santa Maria.
