Passignano sul Trasimeno

Province: Perugia · Region: Umbria · Population: 5,522 · Postal code: 06065

The song Una rotonda sul mare was born here, on a platform over the lake: Franco Migliacci wrote the words one evening at the Lidò restaurant, and the record company then moved the dedication to Senigallia.

The sea, in other words, was Lake Trasimeno. Passignano sits on a headland of the northern shore, closed inside its medieval walls, with the Rocca on top, where the boat museum is laid out: there are craft from the Trasimeno, from Piediluco and from the Fucecchio marshes. In 1073 John Gualbert, founder of the Vallombrosans, died here. Among the 5,522 residents some beat iron by hand and some build electronics for Formula 1.

Saint Christopher, patron of a parish church built on an ancient pagan temple

📅 Every year, on 25 July

Passignano sul Trasimeno celebrates Saint Christopher on 25 July; his church, today the cemetery church, is an ancient pieve built before the year 1000 on the ruins of an earlier pagan temple, in the lakeside town that also holds the medieval Rocca and the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Oliveto.
