The patron saint of Passignano sul Trasimeno is Saint Christopher, celebrated on 25 July. The church dedicated to him, today the cemetery church, is an ancient pieve built before the year 1000 on the ruins of an earlier pagan temple.
The town, standing on a promontory overlooking the northern shore of Lake Trasimeno and listed among Italy's «Most Beautiful Villages», developed mainly in the modern era, between the 16th and 17th centuries: it was precisely in the 16th century that both the Renaissance-style church of San Rocco and the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Oliveto, probably designed by Mariotto Radi, came into being. At the highest point of the town stands the Rocca, built in medieval times, which today houses the Museum of Boats, with vessels from Lake Trasimeno, Piediluco and the Padule di Fucecchio. In the 15th century the area was under the dominion of the powerful Degli Oddi family, who held various holdings around Trasimeno, at Vernazzano, Montalera, Castiglione del Lago and elsewhere, as well as the county of Laviano in the Chiugi.
