The patroness of Tuoro sul Trasimeno is Saint Mary Magdalene, celebrated on 22 July. The church dedicated to her was built towards the end of the 14th century and rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century to a design by Giovanni Santini; inside it holds a fine fresco by the futurist painter Gerardo Dottori, painted in 1949.
The present-day town took shape in the Middle Ages, no earlier than the 13th century according to local historians, but its territory is famed above all for the Battle of Lake Trasimene, fought in 217 BC between the Romans and the Carthaginians under Hannibal: one of the best-known episodes of the Second Punic War, still recalled today in frescoes such as the one in the Gallery of Maps at the Vatican Museums.
