From Bomerano di Agerola to Nocelle it is about eight kilometres along the mountainside, the Amalfi Coast unrolling beneath your feet and Capri floating ahead: the Path of the Gods is the Mediterranean's most celebrated trek, a mule track among terraces, maquis and drops that demands no climbing skills — but no flip-flops either.
Along the way, a plaque recalls the words tradition attributes to Italo Calvino about the "road suspended over the magic gulf".
Our tip: start from Agerola (you walk downhill, sea in your face) early in the morning; in Nocelle, reward yourself with a lemon granita before the 1,500 steps to Positano — or the bus, which is no dishonour.
