The residence of Trento's prince-bishops stitches together a medieval castle, a Renaissance palace and hanging gardens: inside, the Eagle Tower keeps the Cycle of the Months (c. 1400), the most extraordinary painted account of medieval life — peasants and nobles, snows and grape harvests, month by month. The loggias over the city and the frescoed halls deserve the whole afternoon.
In the moat, a stone remembers Cesare Battisti and the irredentist martyrs tried here in 1916.
Our tip: the Eagle Tower is visited in small groups at fixed times: book that slot with your ticket, or risk missing the very treasure. In summer, the courtyard hosts concerts under the stars.
