The patroness of Charvensod is Saint Columba, celebrated on 31 December. The parish church dedicated to her, Sainte-Colombe, is probably of Merovingian date, among the oldest religious testimonies of the town. The two doves depicted on the town's coat of arms allude precisely to the patron saint and to the collegiate church of Sant'Orso in Aosta, which from 1268 to 1999 owned the Comboé alpine pasture, one of the most important in the area.
The crosier on the coat of arms, instead, refers to the bishops of Aosta, former owners of the castle of Charvensod situated near the parish church, of which a round turret and a few remains of the 14th-century walls are still visible, and to the diocese's patron, Saint Gratus, bishop of Aosta in the 5th century, who according to tradition retired to meditate at the site where a small sanctuary in his honour now stands.
