Pollein

Province: Aosta · Region: Aosta Valley · Population: 1,531 · Postal code: 11020

The coat of arms carries a colt, poulain in French: canting arms, chosen for the echo of the village's name. The other elements come from the provostry of the Great St Bernard, on which the parish of San Giorgio depended from the twelfth to the eighteenth century, and from the lords of Nus, who had a castle at Pollein that has since vanished.

The territory lies on the shaded side, immediately south of the Aosta plain, and holds its practical half: part of the industrial estate, the regional heliport, the freight terminal and the shopping complex. Its 1,531 residents live tight against the regional capital.
