The patron of Gressoney-Saint-Jean is the saint it is named after, Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June in the church dedicated to him.
The Walser village's calendar holds other dates: the Bierfest in June and the Walser Nacht in mid-August. And a winter custom from long ago: on the evening of 31 December the young people go from house to house through the hamlets singing the Neujahrslied, the New Year's song, in German.
