The patron of La Thuile is Saint Nicholas, celebrated on 9 May in the parish church dedicated to him, which dates from the 12th century.
The town occupies the upper part of the valley that shares its name, on the border with France through the Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo. In summer the Fête des bergers, the shepherds' festival, is held here, organised together with the towns on the Savoy side such as Séez and Bourg-Saint-Maurice; there is also the Pass' Pitchü, the festival marking the reopening of the pass.
