The feast of Saint Euphemia, protectress of Irsina, lasts four days, from 14 to 17 September. The most solemn moment is the 16th: on the cathedral steps the keys of the city are handed to the archbishop, and by him to the patroness and guardian of the town. A long procession through the streets follows, with the image of the saint, the relic of her arm and the icon of the Madonna della Divina Provvidenza.
Inside the cathedral there is also the marble statue of Saint Euphemia, which keeps a scholarly debate open: attributed to Andrea Mantegna by Clara Gelao, director of the provincial Pinacoteca of Bari, and by part of the critics, it is assigned by others — among them Giovanni Agosti — to Pietro Lombardo. The work was shown both at the Mantegna exhibition in Mantua in 2006 and at the one in the Louvre.
