The patroness of Ceranesi is Our Lady of the Guard, celebrated on 29 August in the celebrated sanctuary that stands on the summit of Monte Figogna, at 804 metres.
In just over twenty years the sanctuary has welcomed three popes: the first was John Paul II, in 1985; then Benedict XVI, who stayed overnight there between 17 and 18 May 2008 and bestowed on it the Golden Rose; and finally Pope Francis, on 27 May 2017, who met the young people of the archdiocese of Genoa in the basilica della Guardia. The AM monogram, Ave Maria, symbol of the sanctuary, has also entered the municipal coat of arms, replacing the «capo di San Giorgio» that testified, in an 1893 version, to Genoa's dominion over the territory.
