The patron of Montebruno is the Nativity of Mary, celebrated on 8 September, in the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montebruno, the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta built at the end of the 15th century in Gothic architecture with Baroque decorations: it preserves a 17th-century wooden crucifix and a fresco by Ottavio Semino depicting the Baptism of Saint Augustine. Adjacent to the sanctuary, in the former convent's rooms, stands the Museum of Farming Culture of the Upper Trebbia Valley.
On 15 August 1811, the French aeronaut Sophie Blanchard, having set off from Milan, was forced into an emergency landing near Montebruno due to strong updrafts: the episode is still commemorated today by the town with a historical reenactment, «Il volo di Sophie Blanchard», featuring hot-air balloons, hang gliders and side exhibits.
