Finale Ligure

Province: Savona · Region: Liguria · Population: 11,724 · Postal code: 17024

In the Arene Candide cave they found the burial of the Young Prince, one of the oldest Palaeolithic tombs in Europe; the same cavern gave up a primitive cemetery with fifteen individuals. The finds are in the civic museum, inside the Santa Caterina convent at Finalborgo.

The name comes from the border: to the Romans this was Ad Fines, the point where the Ligurian Sabazi ended and the Ingauni began. Later Finalborgo was for six centuries the capital of the Marquisate of Finale, an independent state from 1162 to 1797, and it is now among the most beautiful villages in Italy. There are 11,724 residents.
