The patron of Loano is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June; the cathedral is named after him. In the old town there is also his oratory, in the care of the confraternity of the White Disciplinants — the Cappe Bianche — founded in 1269: inside is an urn with a portion of the ashes of the Baptist and of other martyrs.
Outside the built-up area rises the convent complex of Monte Carmelo, raised between 1603 and 1608 at the wish of the Doria, lords of Loano: a Latin-cross church, the convent, the cloister, a defensive tower and a princely palace. The first general chapter of the Carmelite order was held there, and the family tombs are in the crypt.
