Saint Maurus the Abbot, patron of the Brughè Chapel
📅 Every year, on 15 January
Buscate celebrates Saint Maurus the Abbot on 15 January, in the church dedicated to him.
In the local dialect Buscate is called Büscáa, but it was once Büst Cava: that served to tell it apart from Büsti Grandi, which is Busto Arsizio, and from Büst Picul, which is Busto Garolfo. The name comes from the woodland that stretched south of Busto, and about the origins of the village not much more is known: no trace of them survives either in the town archive or in the parish one.
Buscate was an old dependency of the pieve of Dairago, and on Saturdays the canons would spread out into the outlying settlements to celebrate mass: the roads they took then still exist, and in the countryside they are still called the canons' roads. On the coat of arms there is a mulberry, the tree whose leaves feed silkworms, in memory of what was done here. The village's most important villa, on the other hand, bears two names, Rosales and Abbiate, from the two families that built and transformed it.
