The patron saint of Cinisello is Saint Ambrose, celebrated on 7 December in the church dedicated to him, the town's main church: built in the late 15th century on an old rural settlement, it was rebuilt in larger Baroque form after the plague that struck the Duchy of Milan between 1630 and 1632, killing 73 of Cinixellum's 650 inhabitants. Parish priest Don Francesco Solari and the community wanted the building as a sign of thanksgiving for the end of the epidemic. The church owes its present appearance, enriched with new decoration, to works carried out in the 1960s at the will of Don Massimo Pecora.
The municipality was born from the union of the two old settlements of Cinisello and Balsamo, each with its own patron: while Cinisello venerates Saint Ambrose, the sanctuary of San Martino, once Balsamo's main church along Via San Saturnino, still holds the relics of Saint Saturninus and is dedicated to the village's patron and protector. Among the town's most notable sites also stands Villa Ghirlanda Silva, acquired by the municipality in 1974 after long negotiations with the Cipelletti family and today, together with its park, turned into a civic cultural centre.
