The patron saint of Melegnano is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated in the basilica dedicated to him on the occasion of the Festa e fiera del Perdono, held every year on Holy Thursday.
The brother of the first Marquis of Melegnano was elected Pope under the name Pius IV, born Giovanni Angelo Medici: it was he who granted the community, then called Marignano, the Bull of Pardon, dated 20 January 1563, under which plenary indulgence is still granted today during the feast. The town also holds the Castello di Melegnano and the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine.
