Villasanta

Province: Monza and Brianza · Region: Lombardy · Population: 13,619 · Postal code: 20852

The name is two names welded together. The settlement that grew around the church of Sant'Anastasia, recorded in a document of 768, was called for centuries the place of the Saint, then simply La Santa; the other part, today's Sant'Alessandro and San Fiorano, appears in medieval papers as Villola or Coliate, later Villa, and became the municipality of Villa San Fiorano. La Santa stayed with Monza until 1928, when the two halves were joined: the following year the name Villasanta was chosen.

The coat of arms brings together the devices of three old families: the watermelon of the Mellerio, the silver and black bends with the seated dog of the Taverna, the fess with a horse bit and three interlaced rings of the Somaglia. In the centre stands Villa Camperio, once Casnedi, where in 1815 the Austrian government confined its owner, the patriot Federico Confalonieri; it is the town's today and holds the library. On the square a fountain gathers six waters: four irrigation channels, the Molgorana stream and the Lambro.

Patron saint festival

Saint Anastasia and Saint Marcus the Soldier, patrons of the land of the Monza Park

📅 Every year, on the second Sunday of October, moved from 25 December as it coincides with Christmas

Villasanta celebrates Saint Anastasia and Saint Marcus the Soldier on the second Sunday of October. Since Saint Anastasia's feast falls on 25 December, coinciding with Christmas, ancient tradition moved the patronal feast to the second Sunday of October, which also coincides with the co-patron's feast day.
